Apple has recently announced that from now on you will need to ask users who are using IOS 14 for their permission to track their activities across apps and websites. As per Apple’s App Tracking Transparency policies, if any app does not comply with it, it might be removed from the play store.

Apple is consistently striving to protect users' data and their privacy that is why Apple has launched ATT framework which is going to stop advertisers from tracking user's activities on other developer's applications and websites. Users will get rid of irritating unwanted ads and their data will be more secure.

Things you will not be able to track as an advertiser

There are some of the things which will be a violation of the ATT framework, for example:

1. Tracking users' activities in other apps/websites and showing ads based on that data.

2. Sharing users' email IDs, location, and other personal data with third-party ad networks. Which could be used to target or re-target them in other apps.

3. Sharing users' information with data brokers.

4. Using third-party SDK in your application which combines user data from your app with user data from other apps to target for advertising or measure the efficiency of advertising.

How is it going to affect your advertising campaigns?

The ATT framework will reduce the visibility of your advertising key metrics, specifically app installation and sales data. So, you might not be able to have a clear idea of how effective your marketing campaigns are performing. Which is going to affect how you manage your budget and bids.

How to deal with this?

To deal with the situation, for now, you can upgrade to the latest version of Google Analytics for Firebase which supports features like SKAdNetwork. SKAdNetwork is an API which attributes app conversions to respective ad campaigns without compromising user's data. It will help the advertisers measure their campaigns effectively while complying with Apple’s ATT policies. All advertisers are advised to monitor their IOS app campaigns performance closely and take necessary actions such as adjust bids and budgets as required to manage them.
